Development & Education Centre
Development & Education Centre
My final third year project was for a centre to house education facilities for both children and adults. The brief was open to what we individually decided to teach. My project, focusing around prosthetic limb development and rehabilitation grew out of an interest for how in our modern age people interact with technology, and how this could extend to the architecture. The process of learning was expanded to encompass not only the patients, but also the staff, and general public.
The project was developed on the basis of disjointed volumes, and the re-connections. As such, a hybrid between heavy stone volumes and lighter steel connections was formed producing an interesting relationship.

The Scarborough Seafront
Artist Glassblowing Centre
Artist Glassblowing Centre
One of my two main studio projects for 3rd year, I designed an artist glassblowing centre located along the harbor at Scarborough, which would house facilities for both hot & cold glassmaking studios, along with in-house artist and public accommodation, a glass-artwork store, various gallery spaces, and a student/visitor learning centre.
The project took heavy influence from maritime technology and methods of designing in relation to contact with water. Precedents ranging from shipyards and boat lifts, to industrial revolution machinery and factories.
The intended/planned outcome.
The actual event and learning from the outcomes of experiments.
